Riassunto the early Hanoverians

When Queen Anne died in 1714, was succeeded by George I, the first member of the Hanover family to sit on the throne of England. As he was German, he was unable to speak English and for this reason he left to his ministers the duty to handle everything in his place. He just insisted that his ministers had to be Whigs, and also appointed Sir Robert Walpole as Prime Minister, in power for 20 years. The Hanoverian ministers met in a chamber called Cabinet. In period of his power Walpole kept England out of foreign conflicts so trade could flourish well and taxes could be kept down. There was better food to eat and an interest in improving agriculture, in fact scientific methods was used to breed animals and grow crops. But on the other hand transport was poor, roads were bad and infested with highwaymen. The next Prime Minister was William Pitt in 1766. Coffe houses in town were a place for social, professional and political meetings. Journalism became a profession.
